Strike Up the Band

Each year a wonderful grass-roots community based celebration called Holiday at Home takes place during the Labor Day week-end in Kettering, Ohio. Highlights include a parade which attracts upwards of 100,000 viewers as well as a large two-day arts and crafts and food festival, 5k run, auto show, beauty pageant, soccer tournament, and a golf scramble.

The large number of people and the family oriented nature of the event offered an opportunity to have a good time working on a parade float that promoted life and family values.
The theme for the first parade (2002) we participated in was "There's No Place Like Home" and we developed a float with the title "Love of Life Begins at Home".

The theme for our second, and last, parade (2003) was "Great Moments in Time". For our float, we chose two great moments in time: the signing of the Declaration of Independence and, related to the Declarations ringing assertion that we are all created equal, was the actual moment of creation for each individual human life.
